To start a game of Magic you first need a deck and an opponent. Once you have that its simple. Most people like to roll dice to see who goes first but whatever way you and your opponent agree on is fine. Once that is decided you and your opponent draw a hand of 7 cards from the top of your deck. If you aren't satisfied with your hand then you can mulligan. The Turns page will go into this some more but in a game with only two players the first turn is slightly different than any other turn. If you go first you skip your draw on the first turn. This is because it is advantageous for most decks to go first and to balance this out the second player gets a card while the first doesn't. That is how you start a game of Magic.
